The 8th ESES Conference will be held organized in Granada from 16th to 18th of May 2019. This historical town is famous for its charm, heritage and leading University.
The topic of the meeting is “Volume, outcomes and quality standards in endocrine surgery”, and has been chosen as an opportunity for ESES to seize the initiative in discussing the requirements for European accreditation of both Units and surgeons. All European countries have struggled with individual accreditation patterns and a common continental system seems desirable and timely. It is anticipated that the presented data and discussions that will follow in Granada will generate decisive consensus guidelines.
These challenging themes will be addressed through five working groups focused on volume/outcome issues for thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal surgery, training issues and requirements for the accreditation of Units. All of these themes are likely to stimulate constructive interaction between the speakers, the panelists and the attendants of the meeting. In addition, the conference will be also open to scientific contributions on general endocrine surgery topics from the attendants, in video, poster and oral formats.
On the other hand, we will have the privilege of having the Scientific Lecture delivered by Dr. John Abercrombie, representative of General Surgery in the British initiative Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT programme). Also, companies surrounding our interest area will present its latest developments.
The venue for the meeting, Granada Conference Centre, combines amplitude, comfort, facilities adapted to our needs, in a privileged situation in the centre of the city, which is close to tourist attractions and hotels. The Welcoming Event in Carmen de los Mártires; the night visit to the Alhambra, a medieval palace of the Nasrid dynasty, world heritage site; and the Gala Dinner in the Palacio de los Cordova, at the foot of the Alhambra, combine to give everybody a glimpse of the charm of this wonderful town.
In addition to meeting friends and new contacts, getting different insights from the speakers and sharing your own points of views and experiences, each of you should aim to leave time to get lost in this city and its surroundings, especially pleasant during this spring season. You will not regret it.
We are looking forward to meeting you in Granada!
